Fresh-air supply

Controlled intake of outdoor air into occupied spaces.

Overview

Fresh-air supply is the intentional delivery of outdoor air into the building. It may be direct, ducted, or part of a balanced system with heat recovery. In tropical construction it must be planned carefully so the project does not swap stale air problems for wet ducts, dirty filters, or poorly placed outdoor-air intakes.

Why it changes project scope

Once fresh air is introduced deliberately, the project needs intake positions, filtration, access for maintenance, insulated routes where required, and a commissioning method to prove air is actually reaching the right spaces. This makes it more than a small MEP add-on.

Common mistakes

  • Intake points are placed too close to discharge points, parking, or dirty service zones.
  • Ceiling space is allocated for ducts but not for filter replacement or service access.
  • Fresh-air routes are added after lighting, structure, and cabinetry are already coordinated.

Cost effect

Fresh-air systems increase rough-in, finishing, and commissioning scope, especially where access, filtration, and balancing are needed.
