Concrete honeycombing
Voids or rough porous zones in concrete caused by poor compaction, congestion, leakage, or placement defects.
What honeycombing indicates
Honeycombing appears as voided, stony, or porous concrete. It often happens where reinforcement is congested, vibration is poor, formwork leaks grout, or concrete placement is rushed.
Why it matters
Honeycombing can reduce durability, expose reinforcement, weaken waterproofing interfaces, and trigger structural review. Cosmetic patching without assessment can hide a deeper defect.
What to inspect
- Congested reinforcement zones before the pour.
- Concrete placement access and vibration method.
- Any exposed honeycombing before repair material is applied.
