Temporary works
Temporary structures, services or controls used to build the permanent works safely and efficiently.
What temporary works include
Temporary works are not part of the final building, but they make the final building possible. Examples include scaffolding, shoring, formwork support, temporary access roads, site drainage, temporary power, protection, lifting platforms and safety barriers.
Why temporary works affect cost
Temporary works are often underpriced because they disappear at the end of the project. In reality they control productivity, safety, access, water management and sequencing. A cheap price that ignores temporary works can become expensive once the site is active.
What to check
- Is access suitable for delivery and installation?
- Is temporary drainage planned before excavation or rainy periods?
- Are supports and protection designed for actual loads?
- Can temporary works be removed without damaging completed work?
