Material consumption rate

A planning quantity of material expected per unit of work, such as kg per m虏, m鲁 per m虏 or linear meters per room.

What a material consumption rate is

A material consumption rate is a planning benchmark for estimating quantities. Examples include tile adhesive per square meter, reinforcement per cubic meter of concrete, waterproofing membrane per square meter or sealant per linear meter of joint.

Why it improves estimating

Early estimates often fail because they price area but ignore hidden consumption drivers: laps, waste, joint width, substrate porosity, access, small pours and penetrations. Consumption rates make these drivers explicit and help compare options before final bills of quantities are ready.

Limits of consumption norms

A consumption rate is not a substitute for a drawing takeoff. Final quantities depend on design, dimensions, product data sheets, workmanship, local codes and site conditions. The best use is as a transparent planning range that becomes more precise as the project matures.
