Productivity rate
The amount of work a crew or resource can complete in a defined time, usually measured per day, shift or labor-hour.
What productivity rate means
A productivity rate measures output over time. For example, a crew may install a certain square meter of tile per day or place a certain cubic meter of concrete per shift. The rate depends on access, complexity, supervision, material supply and weather.
Why productivity affects cost
Two contractors can use the same material price but produce very different final costs because their labor productivity differs. Small sites, difficult access, rework, waiting time, late information and poor sequencing reduce productivity and increase indirect cost.
How to use productivity rates
- Check whether crew size matches the planned sequence.
- Compare schedule duration against realistic output.
- Add risk allowance where access or weather limits work.
- Track actual productivity during construction and update future estimates.
